The Mind of Christ
1 Corinthians
2:9-16 “But as it is written,
Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man,
the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.[10]
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.[11]
For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the
spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth
no man, but the Spirit of God.[12] Now we have received, not the spirit
of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things
that are freely given to us of God.[13] Which things also we speak, not
in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which
the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things
with spiritual.[14] But the natural man receiveth
not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither
can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.[15] But he
that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself
is judged of no man.[16] For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that
he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”
So, do you have the mind of Christ? Paul states that
is exactly what we have. From these few verses Paul tries to explain what that
mind would be capable of doing, but there is one key aspect of having the mind
of Christ that is so critical and that is the Spirit. Without the Spirit, Holy
Ghost, Spirit of God, Comforter or Spirit of Truth a person is just carnal/flesh
lacking any understanding of the hidden and mysterious things of God. So don’t
let others tell you that we are unable to grasp or fully understand the
mysteries fore we are given the ability to do so.
(Mark 4:11 “And he said unto them, Unto
you it is given to know the mystery
of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are
done in parables:”)
What can be misunderstood from what Paul said about having
the mind of Christ is that what is needed to be done to receive it. It can be
overlooked because you read of it in the very beginning in verse nine. It is
not just receiving the Spirit that allows you to have the mind of Christ, but
also you have to love God. The love for God is no simple form of love, such as
someone saying that they love you but all their actions says otherwise.
Remember what Jesus will say to those in the end that have done things in his
name. Would those that had done these acts in his name say that they loved
Jesus? For the most part they would say that they did, but as we see here that
there is a difference between what you think and what is true. This also goes
for his Father when it comes to us loving Him.
(Matthew 7:21-23, “Not every one that saith unto me,
Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will
of my Father which is in heaven.[22]
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy
name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy
name done many wonderful works?[23] And then will I profess unto them,
I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”)
To know what kind of love we need to have towards
God we need to take a look at Jesus’ life and how he loved his Father/God.
(John 20:17 “...I ascend unto my Father,
and your Father; and to my God,
and your God.”)
Jesus love for his Father was one of true
zealousness and this zealousness that Jesus had is the same that we should have
for his Father.
(John 2:17 “And his disciples remembered
that it was written, The zeal
of thine house hath eaten me up.”)
Zeal is a very powerful emotion to have and even
that there is more to it than just having zeal for God. But showing true obedience to God in all that we do
and this is what Jesus did. Jesus’s life is not just the Light but a road map
of how our lives should be modeled after. All that Jesus did was what his
Father asked of him to do in the life he lived down here.
(John 17:4 “I have glorified thee on the
earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me
to do.)
(John 12:49-50 “For I have not spoken of
myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should
say, and what I should speak.[50] And I know
that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as
the Father said unto me, so I speak.”)
The loving relationship that Jesus had with his
Father is the same that we need to have as well, especially if we desire to be
revealed the mysteries hidden in the Word of God. Can we receive the gift of
the Holy Spirit without having the fullness of love for God? Yes, just as Jesus
earlier pointed out that there would be those that had and will do powerful
works in his name. So to we can receive the Holy Spirit to aid us in understand
things of the scriptures, but not the fullness that there is waiting for those
that truly love God by doing all that
He has asked of His people to do.
Jesus spoke to his disciples during the Passover and
one of those was about love and what that included. There is but one problem
that arises from this that isn’t Jesus’ fault but of those that profess to love
and follow him. First read John 14:15-31.
(John 14:15-31 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.[16]
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;[17] Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot
receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he
dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.[18] I
will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.[19] Yet a little
while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me:
because I live, ye shall live also.[20] At that day ye shall know that I
am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth
me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father,
and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.[22] Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou
wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?[23] Jesus
answered and said unto him, If
a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and
we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.[24] He that loveth
me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye
hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.[25]
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.[26] But the Comforter, which is the
Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all
things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said
unto you.[27] Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as
the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let
it be afraid.[28] Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come
again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the
Father: for my Father is greater than I.[29] And now I have told you
before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.[30]
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh,
and hath nothing in me.[31] But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the
Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.”)
The problem or should I say mistake that is made by
so many is the word commandment. Too many make the mistake in thinking that
this applies only to the “Ten Commandments”. By doing so they limit what is
truly being spoken of here and they miss the mark. Did Jesus keep merely the “Ten
Commandments”? Of course not, but then others will say that he kept the others
because he was raised a Jew. Jesus’s own words disprove this because he has
already stated that everything that he had said and done was from his Father
not because of how he was raised. Instead of trying to justify their (professing
Christians) own desires in what they want to do they need to take a step back
and listen to what Jesus says. To many times have I
heard them say that the Law was crucified to the cross and yet we see Jesus
himself stated that they are not done away with.
(Matthew 5:18 “For verily I say unto
you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till
all be fulfilled.”)
So again are we to do what we think and feel is
right or are we to live as Jesus lived and that was by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God? And if you think ALL
has been fulfilled then I guess we have ALL missed the boat. As for myself I
will take the words of God Almighty and His son Jesus over ANYONE else’s for my
life and reward in Heaven is a gifted to me by them an no other.
May your hearts be open and your souls be longing
after that true relationship with both our Father/God in Heaven and His son
Jesus, so you too will be able to grasp and understand the deeper mysteries
hidden in the Word of God.
