Waiting

While we are waiting for Jesus’ return, what are you doing? I would think that that should be our number one question that we honestly need to ask ourselves, emphasis on the word HONESTLY. It is not something we should try to explain away or make excuses for not doing anything or very little since God will not see it the same way as we do when we try to justify our actions.

Jesus laid down the foundation for what is required of us, his followers, to do and yes Jesus had requirements just as his Father has requirements that we need to fulfill which His son Jesus followed (John14:15; 15:10; 2 Kings 17:13-15). Of course the easy part is that by fulfilling one you fulfill both of them. Everything that Jesus asked of his followers and the example that Jesus left us (John 7:16; 9:4; 1 Peter 2:21), is exactly what his Father wanted us to be doing anyways.

People it seems think that or assume that, “Oh, Jesus died for us and all is done away with, we don’t have much to do anymore. All we have to do is sit around live our lives like we have always done and wait for his return to make everything ok.” Then again among the Christians you may find some of the more dedicated ones out there that do not see it that way, but again then they don’t try to push the issue with those that are within their own congregation to step it up and to strive harder for a closer relationship with God.

For those of us out there that fall into the Dedicated category have to strive not to fall into the trap of “What is the point” when you look around and no one seems to be trying or even wanting to change their lives so that they live more in alignment with what Jesus life was all about or maybe you may think that it would be easier to have knocked down the walls of Jericho by beating your head into them then getting some of those that claim to be Christians to take this life that we have been given and that we have “supposedly” given over to Jesus and actually live as he has asked us to do.

I for one will not tickle your ears to make you feel better about yourselves if you’re not doing what is required of you to do. If that was the case then I would definitely not be here preaching. Since I am accountable for not just the life that I live, but the lives of those that I preach to, for if I teach contrary to God’s word or mislead others by my own, I will have to answer for what I have preached when I stand before The Almighty.

We are all accountable for what we say and what we do. Sooner or later you will all stand before The Almighty and we do not want to find ourselves wanting. As the saying goes “You have been weighed, you have been measured and you have been found wanting” or as you can find in Daniel 5:27 “Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting”. Also we definitely do not want to find our Mediator who is there to stand up for us before his/our Father to say that he does not know us as it is spoken of in Matthew 7:21-23, “I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity”.

I do not worry about just myself, but I worry about all of you. We do not want to be found slacking off from our responsibilities to The Almighty and His son whom He sent down here to redeem us and to leave us an example of how we should be living. Let it not take a something drastic to happen to wake us up or to light a fire under us to get us to do what we are supposed to be doing.

Let us not be found sitting around doing nothing, thinking that all our work is done and there is nothing left for us to do. People speak of not being plucked from God’s hand (John 10:28-29), but the scriptures do not say that we cannot leave His hand on our own accord. Do not think yourself safe and secure in the palm of God, but end up finding out to late that we ourselves have walked out of it on our own.
