70
Weeks
Let us look at Daniel 9:24-27 concerning the 70 weeks.
There are two things that are being address in verse 24, “Thy People” and “Thy
Holy City”. As well as six items that need to be fulfilled and they are “Finish
the Transgression”, “Make and end of sin”, “Make reconciliation for iniquity”,
“To bring in everlasting righteousness”, “To seal up the vision and prophecy”
and “To anoint the most Holy”.
Finish
the Transgression – Deals with all sins of old up to
Jesus
Make
and end of sins – Deals with Jesus’ sacrifice and what
his blood would cover (From Jesus onward)
Make
reconciliation for iniquity – When Jesus reconciled us to his
Father when he presented himself before God (wave offering)
To
bring in everlasting righteousness – At Jesus’ return
To
seal up the vision and prophecy - Sealed till the
right time for it to be revealed
To
anoint the most Holy (Holy of Holies)
– Casting out of Satan Luke 10:18
There are two key
events that are mentioned in Daniel 9:25
and they are “The going forth of the commandment to restore” and “to build
Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince.” First let’s break the 70 weeks down;
the first 69 weeks are broken down into two time frames, 7 weeks and then 62
weeks. The first 7 weeks covers “The going forth of the commandment to
restore”. While the next 62 weeks covers “To build Jerusalem unto the Messiah
the Prince”.
In Ezekiel 4:6 we see The Almighty has appointed each day for a year,
so we now have 490 years from the 70 weeks. We also see in Ezra that the decree
goes out to build Jerusalem. In Ezra chapter one Cyrus made a decree to have
the temple rebuilt and though attempts were made to stop it, we see under king
Darius (Ezra 6:14,15) the temple was
completed which took 46 yrs. according to the Bible - 49 yrs. historically (46
days- using a day for a year) to build (John
2:20). This completes the first part of the 70 Weeks concerning the “the
going forth of the commandment to restore”.
The second part is the
62 weeks “to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince”. We know that 62
weeks or 434 days which equal 434 years. So 434 years after Jerusalem is built
the Messiah is to appear. This took us to 7 BC when Jesus was born. Now, after
the 62 weeks the Messiah (Jesus) is to be cut off and as it states “not for
himself” but for us (John 1:29). In Daniel 9:27 we see that he makes a
covenant with many (those that believe in him) for one week (7 years), but in
the midst (middle) of the week (3 1/2 years) he causes the sacrifice and
oblation to cease. This took place at his death which ended the sacrifices.
In Daniel 9:27 where it says “in the midst (middle) of the week”, this
has a dual meaning to it. First it shows the length of his ministry (3 1/2
years) and it shows when he died which was in the middle of the week (3 1/2
days), so he died on Wednesday not Friday. Also the last half of the week (3
1/2 years) will be completed at the time of the end when the two witnesses
preach for 3 1/2 years.

Note: In Daniel
9:26 it mentioned “and the people of the prince”, here we see that Satan is
called a prince.
